Not just a kids’ movie

With Steven Spielberg, you generally can’t go wrong. And you can see his fingerprints all over Super 8, written and directed by J.J. Abrams.
It’s definitely one to check out on DVD or download, as it’s one of the hits of the summer and marries good acting from its young stars to a neat story. As you’d expect, the special effects are also awesome.
Set in 1979, the film follows the events in a small town where a group of youngsters are making their own entertainment by shooting their own film.
Their own film is ambitious enough, for their ages. But no sooner has the camera started rolling than the kids are witness to – and almost killed by – a spectacular train crash.
Instead of just running away, they go to investigate and find one of their teachers barely alive, having driven his truck onto the track to cause the crash.
When the whole crash is hushed up by the army, who then evacuate the town under the pretext of a fire threat, it’s down to the children to try and uncover the truth about what happened.
Along the way, one of them discovers that even aliens have a heart.
There’s even a nice love angle, which makes it great viewing for girl geeks as well.
One for all the family, Super 8 is a good film to download and watch together. It’s a good idea, though, to check your antivirus software is up to date and reliable before you download anything off the internet.
There are plenty of good free antivirus programs available that will do the trick, and even renowned brands like Kaspersky antivirus offer free trials, so it won’t cost you a lot.
