A History of Film – 1970s to the present day

The 1970s is known as the time of New Hollywood, with new film makers emerging who were putting more of their personal stamp in to their films, with the director being given greater creative control than previously. This led to the rise of directors such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas and began the new trend of “blockbuster” movies. The History of Film to the 1960s

By the middle of the Victorian era, technology had evolved to allow a series of photographs to be taken many times per second, thus creating the first films, or motion pictures. It took many years to develop this into a practical system. It wasn’t until the late nineteenth century that inventions from people such as William Friese-Green and W.K.L. Dickson really enabled film-making to progress, with the Lumiere brothers in 1895 being amongst the first to publically show a film as we would recognise it today. [Read more...]
